Dark Songs!
Sturgeon Bay, WI
"The 10th Anniversary is upon us!
STAGE FRIGHT!!!
In a life-or-death quest for the perfect Halloween theme, 36 songwriters face a darkly daunting deadline. Paired off in 3 frightening games of spin-the-bottle, they co-write their commingled hearts out before taking the stage to face the greatest terror of all: YOU!
Dark Songs 2019 marks the annual event’s 10th anniversary with its eleventh production, “STAGE FRIGHT!!!” Since its first incarnation in 2009 as The Edgar Allan Polka (celebrating Edgar Allan Poe’s 200th birthday), the Dark Songs stage aesthetic has fluctuated between classic Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos while more recently, some specific themes have emerged.
Last year’s theme was a psycho circus. The year before, it was a “mock opera” about Sturgeon Bay’s historic granary, which was endangered at the time. This year’s “Stage Fright” theme involves an exorcism.
Themes change, but dark comedy is the thread that runs through, along with regular nods to polka music – there’s always tuba and accordion – and of course, Edgar Allan Poe (the original guiding light).
Advance tickets go on sale Wednesday September 25! https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4396220
Tickets for each night are sold separately. Seating is assigned.
